Read this travelogue written by traveller Akhil Benny and learn about his experience of exploring Kasaragod.

After completing two trips to Coorg, we decided that our third trip would be to Kasaragod, Kerala. After visiting Coorg twice, we wanted a change, so we chose Kasaragod.
We started early at 6:30 a.m. from Payyavoor. Our first destination was Ranipuram Peak, Kasaragod. It is about 90 km from my hometown, following the route Payyavoor – Cherupuzha – Panathady. Ranipuram Peak is close to the Karnataka border, and while trekking, we can see the Karnataka forest. The trek is around 2.5 km one way. We reached Ranipuram at 10:00 a.m. and started trekking. We walked slowly, spending time taking photos and videos, and enjoying the natural beauty. There was fog and rain, which made it the right time to trek. It took us almost two hours to reach the peak.
Since it was a one-day trip, we had to cover around 250–350 km within 12–18 hours, so we had to move quickly from one destination to another. After spending about 15 minutes at the peak, we started trekking back to the base.
Our second destination was Bekkal Fort. We had a proper time plan—where to stop, where to go, and what time to reach. Unfortunately, due to certain limitations, we couldn’t follow the plan exactly. Many people say that no planning makes the best trip, but for a one-day journey, planning is necessary. Bekkal Fort is about 50 km from Ranipuram. We started riding through the Panathur–Kanhangad route, took a right from Odyanchal, and reached NH 66. We stopped for lunch on the way, but it was already 4:00 p.m. After that, we continued riding and entered the state highway.
We explored Bekkal Fort and then moved to our third destination, Pallikere Beach Park. It was a nice place, and we enjoyed both the beach and the park.
At 7:00 p.m., we started our return journey from Pallikere near Kasaragod. The Kasaragod–Kanhangad state highway was in very bad condition. Riding at night in the rain on an unfamiliar route was a horrible experience. There were big potholes on the road. On the way, we came across a place called “Madiyan,” which had a funny and interesting name.
The Kasaragod trip was a round trip following the route Payyavoor – Cherupuzha – Ranipuram – Pallikere – Kanhangad – Payyanur – Taliparamba – Payyavoor. We reached our hometown at 10:15 PM.
The journey was memorable despite time limits, bad roads, rain, and night riding. It gave us new experiences and many beautiful moments along the way.
