Vrindavan is remarkable for its frenzic Holi celebrations, however, right here at Prem Mandir, I not only heard but also very well saw to believe that every evening is ‘Holi in Love’ or shall I say ‘in Lights’!

Prem Mandir Vrindavan Shri Krishna and Radha Rani

I can never forget the opportune moment of visiting the heavenly abode of Sri Krishna and his consort Radha, on a late evening in the bone-chilling cold month-end of December. The thin blanket of fog that had set in by then did not deter hundreds and thousands of devoted people even in the slightest bit, all of whom willingly came to soak themselves in divine showers of love expressed by the deiforms in the temple, and in turn to express their own unreserved love towards the Gods.

Like as if watching through a rotating prism, the colour-changing illuminations of Prem Mandir, radiating a glow in the dark of the night sky, which in turn accentuated art panels and carved designs on the walls of the two-storeyed temple, was a ‘Venus’ vision of loveliness. For those who get thrilled with a lavish splash of colours like me, this is manifold enticing and entrancing than the plain monochromatic look of daytime.

Not just that, so also the ‘fountained’ gardens all around the temple in addition to a platform on one particular side had settings of statuettes’ and dolls’ portraying various popular scenes from Raslila and other mythical tales of Lord Krishna of which we have heard tonnes of times all the while growing up since childhood.

After strolling around the campus, I was still awestruck at the sheer numbers of crowds which did not seem to recede even after many hours, despite the icy-cold threatening of the weather. Such is the inexplicable ecstasy of devotion when drenched in the myriad colours of love, so divine!
